Re: Landesk 2016.3 and SQL Server 2017

Server 2017 hasn't been fully validated, and thus doesn't show in the supported platforms matrix.

That said, it'll probably work, but I'd recommend testing it with a testing core first. The main thing that would cause any issues is if we used a SQL function that had been removed or had a major change, but looking at the breaking changes page for SQL 2017 doesn't have anything major that I could see causing an issue.

Re: domain users logging in with explicit authentication webaccess

The “explicit” authentication method uses a user/password credential set from the Service Desk users profile.

By default when user profiles are created, the password is blank and hence why I suspect they are logging into this application framework with no password.

In my customer implementations I put a trigger on the tps_user table such that whenever the password is set to null then it replaces it with a long cryptic password that typically only the system knows. If however the password on the user is changed to non-null then they CAN sign in with that explicit logon; this helps secure the system.

I always think this is a bit of a security hole in Service Desk when allowing a null password and explicit authentication mode is accessible.

You get searching for lifecycle ID’s for free but if you want to search for more detailed fields on a Business Object you need to setup via Business Object Designer or the Business Object” tabin Knowledge Administration.  Otherwise only Knowledge articles are indexed by default otherwise.  Other factors that can affect the results are Knowledge Domains but sounds like you havent got that far anyway.

Re: Asset Intelligence and Central

Hi pulchritude19

Asset Manager is basically the same platform as Service Desk (ITSM) except that the processes are built under both the Configuration Item and Asset Manager Business Objects respectively; the former defines the asset lifecycles and the later the Business Processes ( eg Hardware Procurement, Asset Disposal) etc that can perform stateful actions on the asset lifecycles. The licensing of the platform determines whether you can do one of them or both ( ie ITSM + ITAM).

As the platforms are common then so are the tools, so if you want technical manuals on how to create the “lego blocks” of an Asset Manager solution then look no further than the Service Desk/Asset Manager online help guides; Business Object Designer, Window Manager, Process Manager, Query & Report Designer and the UI Dashboard Designer respectively are all of the tools used to build the solution plus the OOTB content.

As far as Asset Intelligence is concerned, this is more ”Marketing futures“ that real tangible product that the Asset Manager platform can consume at this present time. So the Service Desk “Data Import” features are what we use to import data into Asset Manager in the meantime.

Hope this helps but please feel free to reach out to me by PM if I can help you any further.

Invoke web service script

Hello, I'm trying to create a small script that will eventually be called from a triggered action. I'm wanting to call a 3rd party API that is REST based. I have the 3rd party application running on a local internal server and I can access it directly. I am now trying to call the application from a HEAT script with the following:

console.log("start");
var response = ExecuteWebRequest("GET", "http://is-pc80.rbfcu.local:9090/appnotify/", null, null);
console.log(response);
console.log("end");

I'm stuck on where to go from here. Is there somewhere where I can manually run this and see the output?

Notes:

  • I've tried creating a simple trigger (business objects > incident > business rules > triggered actions) to fire when the subject is changed. See screenshot:
    • action1.png
    • The triggered action is set with an "action rule type" of "web service script (beta), where I've entered my script above. However when I create or edit an incident I don't see anything hitting the server where the 3rd party app is running
  • I've set script logging (application logs > logging configuration) to "all"
  • Version we are running is HEAT 2016.2.1000.21143 @ 1/23/2017

Please advise. Thank you!

license regarding Ivanti Patch Manger

$

Hello,

My company has bought "Ivanti Patch Manger powered by Landesk". I am a little confused as to what features are available with this license. There are features available with a management console like "remote control", "software distribution", "inventory", "reports". Am I licensed to use them? They work from within the console, but am not sure if my license allows me to use them.

Thanks,

Radoslaw Czajkowski

Thank you Julian

It seems a security hole to me as well; anyway I'll go for a trigger as you suggested.

It's a very helpful discussion.

I would like to know what are the Landesk recommended choices?

thank you

Hi, I'd suggest this would be a question best suited for your account manager but to try and help from here if you can share a screenshot of your product licensing then the community should be able to help with which features are covered.  My experience is that the product won't let you use what you aren't licensed for anyway (other than node counts).  To view your product licensing, from the console, go to "configure" > "Product Licensing...".

To have patch manager I'd assume you'd get the basics of the management suite (since it'd be difficult to do patching without it) which includes RC, SWD, inventory, reporting, queries, etc.

Re: template record list

Actually, that documentation appears to be a tiny bit incomplete.  I will have to put in a request to have it updated.

Here is a more complete hierarchy of how Xtraction determines what fields to display in a record list: How does Xtraction determine what fields to include in a record list?

The main thing the online documentation is missing is that a record list embedded into a dashboard or document can have the field list set by the designer in the component properties and that will override and user or admin defaults.

But, if you are just concerned about the fields displayed when using the "View Records" menu option, the designer has no control over that and it is currently only determined by the user profile preference (if any), the administration defaults (if any), and then the data model.

Since the specific fields you would want to see would likely vary from dashboard to dashboard, we're considering enhancements to provide more control of "View Records" settings at a per-dashboard and/or per-component level.  For example, the fields you might want to view when looking at a set of Changes scheduled to start in the next 7 days would probably be different from the ones to view when looking at a list of Changes that look longer to complete than was originally scheduled.

stuck in running configure agent

Hi, Guys,

I met a problem when deploying image on MAC.

After netboot by network, chose the template, it will stuck in running configure agent, never will finished or failed message.

The log on the core server will show:

VERBOSE ProvisioningWebService 11/27/2017 12:52:00 PM : GetDeviceNaming for DeviceID 1015

VERBOSE ProvisioningWebService 11/27/2017 12:52:00 PM : DeviceNaming for DeviceID 1015 returned:

The template history displayed

But if reboot by USB flash, it will finished successfully .  The log on the core server are as below:

VERBOSE ProvisioningWebService 11/27/2017 11:47:21 AM : DeviceNaming for DeviceID 1015 returned:

VERBOSE ProvisioningWebService 11/27/2017 11:48:24 AM : SetActionStatus (historyTaskIdn 704, historyEntryIdn 4362, next 4363): state SUCCESS

VERBOSE ProvisioningWebService 11/27/2017 11:48:28 AM : SetActionStatus (historyTaskIdn 704, historyEntryIdn 4363, next 4364): state REBOOTING

Hope someone can help me to solve this problem. Many thanks!
