I have desktop PCs that show up with Type= Workstation, and others are Type= Machine. How does the system determine this, and why would similar computers show up differently?
How is Device Type determined?
Re: Multiple Monitors
Hi, thanks for getting back.
It all works well in a normal windows enviroment, only when connected to Ivanti/RES it stops displaying more than 3 screens.
So the hardware is ok and tested, there must be some Ivanti setting that doesnt allow the multiple displays.
Re: OS Instalation UEFI
Hallo,

Re: Console displaying incorrectly
Hi JonB,
this might happen due to the scaling that is set in Windows 10 for text, apps and other elements. The console lacks the ability to handle the scaling other than 100% and especially with UHD displays the windows will look like this. Just reset the scaling to 100%, log off and log on and the window should be all right.
Try it out and let us know if it works!

Re: New Computers - CSVImport - MAC Address
So there's a "yes and no" here.
"Yes" - a MAC-address *is* required, *IF* you expect to provision those devices (i.e. "PXE pre-targeting" ... that's the "when this device is hooked up to the network, it automatcally starts pulling down its intended image).
"No" - you do *NOT* need a MAC-address for "just creating a device entry" (though it WOULD be very helpful), strictly speaking.
Talk to your hardware vendor - getting a list of MAC-addresses for kit you're getting from them has been a pretty common request for the last 20+ years, and really shouldn't be an outlandish ask.
So depending on what you're trying to do you "can" hack your way past without a MAC-address (or a serial number or "something"), but it REALLY helps having an attribute that we can marry the hardware to.
[Edit:]
Hmm - actually, you're talking about the NIC / IP-address. That's REALLY not something we care about for a CSV-imported record. That gets updated with "what the client picks up". So no - that's not a bare necessity. However, the "NIC-address" that we're after is the MAC-address. Looks like it's just the choice of name that is confusing. It's the MAC, not the IP here .
Here's an example of a minimum viable scan-file for import (more info is better):
Device Name =HELLESPOINT
Network - NIC Address =000C293E78FC
Re: How is Device Type determined?
In short - "it depends".
Sometimes it can be down to things like "broken WMI". Often enough it amounts to "different versions / out of date inventory scanners" (do a comparison of the Inventory Scanner versions on the devices where you're getting "proper" versus "Machine"-strings for instance). Could be something relatively simple as that.
By and large its down to "what the inventory scanner can get to" -- which is usually limited either by the inventory scanner's version/capabilities (i.e. "a inventory scanner from 2008 isn't going to be able to make much sense of Windows 10"), and somtimes it's a problem on the device itself (i.e. the "broken WMI" example/situation referred to above").
Depending on what your situation is, you may need to involve support here (if you're using consistent / up-to-date inventory scanners, yet getting disparate results in otherwise similar machines) ... it COULD be a bug (in which case they'll help troubleshoot & gather data) or it could be a device-specific problem (bits of broken OS / WMI type thing).
If you have a "spare" difficult machine lying around, for instance, does it behave differently / consistently if you can re-image it & put down the latest agent? (Not a small ask, I know, just thinking "ideal scenario" to test, to see whether it's likely an OS and/or "old files" type issue).
Hope that helps.
Re: How is Device Type determined?
Also - please get into the habit of posting what general version you're on, so people have a vague idea for how in-date / out-of-date you are (i.e. "I'm on 9.5 SP2" // "I'm on 2018.1 + SU1" type of thing) . It does help give context.
Re: DNS connection support for CSA "client side"
Hmm - interesting ... and problematic.
And I expect that this may become a recurring challenge with cloud-based devices going forward ... so yeah, definitely one to try & figure out...
I'll try to get a smart person who knows a fair bit about the CSA to get eyes on this thread & add a few snippets of insight, *fingers crossed* .
Re: Console displaying incorrectly
Thanks for your response.
I had thought of that. I am using a MS Surface pro with two additional screens. The additional screens are not UHD and scaling was set to 100% but I still got the issue.
It turns out that the console must be affected by the scaling of the main screen rather than the screen the console is displaying on. Changing the main screen to one of the standard definition screens resolved the problem.
Thanks for your help.

Re: OS Instalation UEFI
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\NetSupport\OSD\OsdProxy
Irgendwie kurios.
Möglichkeit #3 (Fehlerbehebung)
Aktuelles BIOS Update einspielen, falls möglich. Ggf. Hersteller anschreiben.

Re: Some custom attributes in inventory not replicating/disappearing
OK so ... (this will be a bit longer).
This is essentially a headache you've (unwittingly) caused yourself by using "unmodelled custom data" (this isn't something you've done "wrong" as such, don't worry). What "unmodelled" means is "it's custom data which we don't have a specific table designed for it to go into".
That kind of unmodelled data DOES come with a few specific headaches - such as it not being really replicateable.
The GOOD news are as follows:
- Neither you nor your DB are hosed. Pretty much everything is fixable.
- DBRepair "only" detects / shows-up data which is unmodelled, so based on what you're describing, that seems consistent & in-line with expectations.
- The "solution" to using custom data which can be rolled up is using MODELLED custom data (i.e. "stuff which has proper DB-tables designed for it".
... so that last bit is also a "good news / not-great news". The good news is that I happen to have documented the process (in quite some detail) about HOW to model DB -tables (with examples, walkting through alot of minutae, and various exercises & solutions) which I presented at Interchange in Dallas earlier this year.
The "not so good news" is that I'm still waiting for the white paper & such being completely reviewed (it's 140+ pages long, and it's getting QUITE in depth, so I don't exactly have issues with it taking longer to go through). The problem with that is that I can't have the info published (incidentally, I *do* go through migrating from unmodelled to modelled data too).
So - how to solve this. If you're willing to take the plunge, how could I get this paper best to you.
I would suggest the following:
- Open a case with support (it's not "really" a support case, but I can't really up-load unreviewed, un-accepted white paper for obvious reasons) and point them at this thread.
- Ask the support tech to get in touch with me (internally), and I'll throw them the materials (current version of the document & example files, labs + exercises, etc) - on the understanding that this is an "as is" material. I'll keep an eye out for such a mail (it'll be about 8 MB of files all in all)
- ... you can then go & properly model your data (on both Core & rollup) and be able to actually roll it up too (as well as making it persistent, so it doesn't go "poof") .
Does that sound reasonable / make sense?
NCPImport (Site, Depot und ManagementPoint)
Hallo zusammen
Beim Management-Point bricht er jedoch mit der folgenden Fehlermeldung ab: Error (Module:Main, Severity:0x0a): Cannot import 'Management Point (mbs9301dsh980)': objects with type 'MGNT_POINT' cannot be added to 'Site_XY' that has type 'SITE'.
Vielen Dank & Gruss
Adrian
Command button editor: Missing commands for "new: Service Request" and other Business Objects
Hi there
We use the "I want to…" Dashboard Object for our customers to simply open a ticket or a Service request from their home tab.
I want to use this mechanic for our IT Supporters too. I tried to create a Dashboard command list Editor with 2 Commands in it:
1. Create new Incident
2. Create new Service Request
But there seems to be no command for this. I found commands to simply open a Workspace or the command "My Items - new Issue" but not a command for create a new Incident or Service Request like you do when Pressing the button "new:...." in These workspaces.
Any ideas?

Re: not able to save personal welcome screen
You might want to make sure that that under the Analyst Privileges -> Configuration Components -> Configuration -> Designers the "Welcome Screen" right is selected.
See attached.

Re: Error show when delete attribute.
i try backup the database and test in virtual environment.
When i setup data sources, it show
creating or altering table 'cm_change' failed because the minimum row size would be 8071, including 119 bytes of internal overhead. This exceeds the maximum allowable table row size of 8060 bytes.. Please check the metadata manager log file for further details (time elapsed: 3 seconds)
Is it because i create too many attribute in cm_change?

Re: Cant deploy .exe .msi Cannot deploy to Portal
I have reinstalled SP2. I installed a new client configuration. I was able to deploy an msi to my machine. When I try another program which is an exe file, it fails " couldnt download additional files". I am looking to see what my next step is for this exe procedure. If you have any suggestions I would be greatful.
Thanks,
