Our issue is within a non-persistent VDI environemtn, if you diable the scans, what use is LANDesk? Software usage monitoring is the main point of LD within WDI.
Every time a VDI machine is powered on, it is a 'new' machine, and LD wants to run a full scan. This means that the inventory and Software inventory scans want to run FULL, as a new unique DeviceID is generated at power-on. When 300+ VDI machines are on at the same time, this causes an issue.
I also noted that the GatherProducts.exe scan does NOT follow the agent settings, and is a global scan process, only able to be turned ON or OFF, without the ability to alter the process priority. That means it will take as much CPU/MEM to run its scan. Again, a problem when 300+ machines all powering on at the same time.
So, how do we get in the initial software and inventory scan without severley affecting the machine and environment, and get the scans done between the time users log in and log out (approx 8 hours)?
